In my wedding planning efforts, I will admit I haven’t thought much about whether or not I want to wear a veil, or what kind of veil I’d wear. After all, I haven’t even set a wedding date, let alone figured out what to do with my hair! Luckily with the Natural Hair Bride Box, I’ve gotten some help jumpstarting the beauty brainstorming for my big day. Since the first inaugural box contained a birdcage veil, I gave it a go with a roll, tuck, and pin like updo that can be modified for various hair lengths!
Birdcage Veil Natural Hair Updo
To achieve this look, I twisted up freshly co-washed hair (with Eden Bodyworks All Natural Cleansing Cowash) using Eden Bodyworks All Natural Curl Defining Creme with my new favorite braid, twist, then bantu knot method. In my mind, I wanted some curl definition to create a curly bang, similar to this style:
Wanna know how I did this makeup look? Check out this video.
Unfortunately my hair didn’t dry fully so curl definition went out of the window, but at least my hair was nicely moisturized and pliable. I did a series of criss cross/folds of hair in the back to create a basketweave, bobby pinning as I went along. In the front, I two strand flat twisted my hair to create a twisted bang. If that sounds confusing, don’t worry, there’s a video below!
I bridal-ized (lol) the updo by adding the birdcage veil from the Natural Hair Bride Box, and some flowers by Flowers from Fatima to make it even more romantic. Here’s what you’ll need to get the look for yourself.
Here’s what else is in the June Natural Hair Bride Box:
Eden Bodyworks All Natural Cleansing Cowash | Eden Bodyworks All Natural Curl Defining Creme | Birdcage Veil (buy individually for $35) | Bride Heart Tote Bag (buy for $35) | BFragranced Embellish Travel Perfume | Lamik Cosmetics Lipstick, Romantic Pink | The Rustic Stamp Bride Fork (get the bride & groom set for $24) | Aisle Always Love Cold Feet Socks (great groom/groomsmen gift! $20)
You can get the whole box for $34.95, or as low as $30 with a subscription! The first box is nearly sold out, so if you’re a bride or you know someone else who is, be sure to place your order! I made a video of myself unboxing all the items, as well as a quick tutorial of the updo, so feel free to watch that below.
I love birdcage veils! I made mine myself for my wedding. I borrowed my sister’s cathedral veil though, cos it made for great photos! I’m sure you’ll decide on the right veil.
