Somehow a whole week has passed by without me posting anything new on the blog! I’ve been so swept up in the throes of NYFW and then came down with a cold. I’ll share all of my looks that I wore for fashion week tomorrow, but today I want to chat about creative ways to wear a button down – a piece I know you already have!
I’m a huge believer in working with whatever you have in your closet versus always buying new clothes. I’ve noticed a lot of fun takes on the classic button down in stores like Zara and Asos, but I don’t want to buy every single variation. When I saw this one shoulder button down on Fashion Jackson, I thought about how I could style a button down I already had in a similar way.
All I did was put my arm through one armhole as usual, then buttoned up the shirt so that my ladies bits were covered. I then turned the shirt so that the buttons were a bit off center, which helped create a diagonal neckline. Then, I tucked the other arm into the back of my pants! I have to admit, this looks a bit weird from the back, but hey, that’s fashion! If my nose stops running and I can make it to a show today, I’ll be rocking this one shoulder button down look again with this skirt instead.
If you’re inspired to wear your button down in a funky way, here are four more creative suggestions:
Off the shoulder
Just unbutton the top 2 or so buttons, pull the sleeves off your shoulders, and bam – new look.
Strapless
Same as above, but instead of putting your arms through the sleeves, tie them together around your waist.
As a skirt
I haven’t tried this yet, but I absolutely love how Jen of Comme Coco rocked this look.
Backwards
I think this has to be done with a seriously cool statement necklace, but if you’re a risk taker, try this!
Really nice and creative to make a button down shirt not look so regular. I certainly love the white shirt, the off shoulder look and that one you did with husbae’s shirt…super cool. Awwww, sorry about the cold too!
