Double Rolled Updo with a Bang + Daytime Smokey Makeup

Someone asked me to  make more get ready with me type videos where I do both my hair and my makeup – now I have no idea why because I am in no way, shape, or form a makeup guru (or even a makeup junkie), but because I do this for the homies, I obliged. With a girls dinner to head out to and an old twistout/rod set combo, I came up this hair and makeup look that I hope you like! Most of the products are super cheap – as I said, I don’t prioritize makeup so I don’t have expensive makeup products – so this look is easy to recreate!

What I Used

For my eyes, I applied an undereye roller that I received from Dollar General (DG Beauty Rejuvenating Eye Roller), which I’ve been using every so often (aka when I remember). I think it’s supposed to help wake up your eyes and improve puffiness, but I honestly just use it because it’s in my makeup bag. I typically don’t wear eyeshadow, but I decided to try and used L.A. Colors Eyeshadow Primer as a base. The one eyeshadow palette I own is NYX Sex Bomb Shadow Palette, which I used on my lid and under my brow. I intensified the silver shadow with a creamy lilac from my WetnWild Perfect Pair Eye Wand in Smoke-Lilac. I then used the liner side (the Smoke) – two birds with one stone! My mascara of choice was Rimmel ScandalEyes Mascara.

For my face, I used my trusty and daily makeup friend NARS Tinted Moisturizer in Seychelles. I’ve been playing with BOOTS Indeed Nanoblur, which is a product that goes over your liquid foundation but under powder, and is supposed to blur imperfections by reducing your pores and mattifying your face. I don’t have large pores so I guess I also just use this because it exists and came for free in a box from Influenster.
To conceal my undereyes, I used Make Up For Ever’s Full Cover Concealer in Fawn 14, and I fake tried to highlight using Covergirl Outlast Stay Luminous 860, which is otherwise a lovely foundation but slightly too light for my skin. I blended everything with a damp Beauty Blender dupe, the Mehron Face Smoothie, and set it off (tehehe) with my MAC Studio Fix Powder in NW43 (which I’ve had for like 3 years and refuses to finish!)

I REALLY enjoy blush and bronzer, so the ones I used for this look were L.A. Colors Blush in Mink and Black Radiance Baked Bronzer in Gingersnap (which along with my NARS is my daily bae). I have pretty full brows so I just pencil them in lightly to even out the shape, and used NYX Brow Pencil in Medium Brown. On my lips, I used the sadly now defunct Lisi Cosmetics Lip Liner in Meringue, and
Make Up For Ever Lipstick in Rouge Artist Natural.

The top part of my hair was a old rod set experiment that I have to show you guys soon, while the back was a twistout. I decided to do a double roll, tuck, and pin that swept up towards my bang, and used Shea Moisture Reconstructive Finishing Elixir to quickly remoisturize my hair and Creme of Nature Argan Oil Perfect Edges to well, perfect my edges.

Final Thoughts

All in all I really liked this look for a few reasons. My makeup was a bit more special than it normally is, but I still very much felt like myself. My hairstyle was super quick and easy, and allowed me to get up and go for the next four days. Not everyone liked the style, apparently because of the lack of parts and definition, but to each his own.

What do you think of this look? Would you try to recreate it yourself?
