Fall Capsule Wardobe

I can’t believe it’s September because oh my goodness this year was a blur! September for me means two things: fall and my birthday. My birthday is on September 23rd, which is usually the day fall starts, so even though I hate pumpkins and leaves, I can’t knock on the season.

It seems people were feeling my summer capsule wardrobe, so I’ve gone ahead and put together a 25 piece fall capsule wardrobe, just in time for Labor Day sales*! As a bonus, I’ve also included a week of outfit inspirations using the items from the capsule. Even though the capsule has a focus on olive green (over the summer I was all about stripes), you can get these pieces in whatever colors you want. And don’t feel pressured to buy anything new, I already had a bunch of these in my closet!

Fall Capsule Wardrobe: Tees & Tops

You likely have a slightly loose white tee in your closet, but wear it knotted this fall for a fresh look. Off the shoulder tops are still a hit, and you can always wear them with a layer for chillier days. Basic long sleeve tees or light knits are helpful, as well as a quirky button down. For date night, choose a lace or mesh top that can be worn with a little or a lot underneath.

Fall Capsule Wardrobe: Layers

You really need to have a leather jacket. A denim jacket and a green jacket (in either this military style or a bomber!) are also great fall layers. Kimonos are perfect for warmer days, and this denim dress is an easy throw on piece that doubles as a jacket when unbuttoned.

Fall Capsule Wardrobe: Skirts & Pants

I’m not much of a skirt person, but I’m currently loving two skirt trends: suede/velvet mini skirts and leather skirts. I’m still on the search for a mini that works with my thighs, but a girl can dream right? Obviously jeans are a staple, but black skinnies and a wide leg trouser should also be in your rotation.

Fall Capsule Wardrobe: Shoes & Boots

I probably went overboard with the boots, but I had to include over the knee ones to be worn with the skirts! Fall can get a little slippery, so having waterproof boots is also important. I invested in these Aquatalia ones during the Nordstrom sale because I was tired of ruined shoes. You can still wear your summer slides into fall, but velvet or embroidered varieties are more seasonally appropriate.

Fall Capsule Wardrobe: Accessories

Trade in your mirrored sunnies for a darker tortoise shell pair, and bring out a scarf for those brisk days. I’m a hat person, so I like wearing a felt hat when I don’t feel like doing my hair. This classic two toned tote matches everything, but for fancier looks, a crossbody is essential.

  1. Nice pick for fall wardrobe, I like your choices that you pick out. You know what my favorite is the recent item that you purchased after dissertation. J Crew is one my favorite store besides Zara and Nordstrom. ASOS has nice clothing also. I like skirts but until I get tone and lean like you I have to stay in my line to the knee or over.?
