First Look at Fingercomber Kinky Kurl-Out Unit!

So Fingercomber sent me ALL types of early Christmas goodies a few weeks ago after they informed me that they wanted me to try out one of their new wigs! I had actually sent them an email a few months back with some advice about how they can better serve their customers and their affiliates, and one of my suggestions was to send affiliates new items to review – and they listened! It would’ve been awkward if I didn’t end up liking what they sent, but I’m happy to report that I have been in LOVE with the Kinky Kurl Out unit and wore it for 3 weeks straight.

I wish I’d filmed my unboxing because I got not one but THREE cute wrapped boxes that included the wig and some hand knitted items – a beanie, a scarf, and a handbag – that they also offer on their site (besides the bag).

They’re all made by designer Francine Toukou and I know this post is supposed to be about the hair but I’m also obsessed with the beanie! It’s not made from wool and cotton free yarn, so I don’t have to worry about protecting my hair underneath. They all came in a lovely mustard color that complimented my new Zara plaid scarf and added some color on days I wore #AllBlackEverything. Any who, on to the wig!

Here are some pics of the wig straight out of the box, as well as the video of how I wore it with my own hair for a natural look. It’s the color Darkest Espresso, which is a color 2. I found a braid in the corner, which I guess is how the manufacturer obtained the wig’s defined curl pattern.

Blending & Maintenance

As I said in the video, I was too lazy to twist my hair up the night before recording, but I had to take advantage of all the natural sunlight and the fact that I’d put on eye makeup LOL. But on regular days, I created a more blendable texture on my leave out by twisting the sides of my hair into a few two strand twists and flat twisting the front bang section using Camille Rose Naturals Aloe Whipped Butter Gel (review forthcoming, but gives a great hold) every couple days. Because I wanted to minimize tangles as much as possible, I took the wig off as soon as I’d get home from work and placed it on a foam head from the beauty supply store. I never applied product on the wig or combed or brushed it either – the most I did was spray some Shea Moisture Lavender & Wild Orchid Dry Oil Mist just to say I did something. A few days ago I noticed some tangling on the sides and the back, as the adjustable straps would sometimes get tangled on hair, and a few days ago I struggled and failed to put it up in a half ponytail to exercise. But I simply sprayed some water on the wig and was able to tease apart the tangles. It also looks more natural the older it gets (as most kinky/curly wigs), so I wasn’t worried about a bit of frizz here and there.

Final Thoughts

It was a blessing to receive this wig and be able to give my hair a break for a couple of weeks, especially as I went back to Harvard for our version of homecoming (the Harvard-Yale football game, where Harvard ALWAYS wins) and went upstate for Thanksgiving. It fooled ERRYBODY and their cousin too – even my mom said she would not have known it was a wig if I hadn’t told her. I was looking RIGHT at my anniversary dinner, thinking to myself “dang girl, I’d totally date you”! However, this is way too much hair for me on an everyday basis (aka I don’t have time to be hit on every day – I’m serious, this wig got me all the catcalls possible in Harlem), so I’m putting it aside for the time-being. For only $78, you can’t ask for an easier stress-free kinky wig to have you looking glam at your office holiday party or while you take a selfie under a mistletoe 😉

Do you think this wig looks natural and realistic? Would you try it?

  1. I recently received my Havana Fro unit in the mail and unfortunately, I am NOT in love with it. At all. It’s my first time buying a wig, so maybe you get what you pay for? But for $100 after taxes and shipping, they could have done better. Part of the problem I think lies in the fact that they have different so called “artisans” to create the units, resulting in very different finished products. If they allowed refunds, I’d send it back in a heartbeat. It looks sorta kinda okay with a knit hat thrown over it (see my profile pic) but the layers are really blunt and the knit cap won’t stay on because the hair is slippery. It also looks like different textures which would be okay….if they were all in the kinky family. But deep wave nubian indonesian s curl is not blending with my Type 4 hair or havana hair in general. Maybe they ran out.

  2. I LOVE the look of this wig! I am kind of surprised (disappointed?) that someone with as much hair as you considers the wig to be too much hair on an everyday basis. That’s the only thing that gives me pause. But I do love it!
