Since getting married, I’ve gotten super low key with makeup, sometimes going all week without wearing any (not because of marriage itself, but because I’m home working on my dissertation more). So when Family Dollar gifted me a ton of L.A. Colors products to create a summer makeup look with, I immediately got to playing!
In case you don’t know, Family Dollar sells an assortment of brand-name beauty and hair products at an affordable price. Through the Fabulous initiative, Family Dollar and beauty brands together provide beauty tips, hair how-tos (like this twistout tutorial I created), and insight on incredible looks on a budget. This time around, I decided to try out a smoky daytime look with purple shades from L.A. Colors. My makeup skills aren’t yet on pro level, but they’re so much further advanced than my earliest makeup attempt on video. Lawd.

L.A. Colors is a family-owned business with modern, budget-minded beauty shoppers in mind. Their eye, nail, and lip cosmetics are certified Cruelty-Free under P.E.T.A., so they’re perfect if you want to try a new makeup look but don’t want to spend a ton of money. My biggest makeup struggle is lashes – mine are naturally very very curly (like the rest of my hair), making it hard to place lashes on my lash line. With L.A. Colors $1 lashes, I can play around with a few pairs before settling on which one looks best!
For this look, I decided to do a smoky purple eye using the L.A. Colors Matte Eyeshadow palettes in Brown Tweed and Natural Linen, paired with an ombré purple matte lip using the L.A. Colors Matte Lipstick in Entice and the L.A. Colors Matte Liquid Lip Color in Fierce. I also tried the Shimmer Bronzer in Radiant for the first time – it packs A LOT of pigment! Here’s a quick tutorial of the final look:
I never use this brand before because I felt like low end cosmetics wouldn’t work. I have come to find out just because it expensive is a better choice than budget friendly products. I noticed the lipstick you wore on IG captured my ?. I really like the eyeshadow and lip color you are wearing. Eyelashes are a whole different story to explore.
You should definitely try L.A. Colors then, price doesn’t always correlate with quality!
