I just realized I never told ya’ll about my hair shenanigans all last week! I colored my hair using Naturtint, washed using some Creme of Nature products from the newest CurlKit, and did a perm rod set using LottaBody products!
Naturtint Hair Color
So I’ve been really itching to color my hair again, so I did some research and found the most “natural” hair color that wasn’t henna. Enter Naturtint. It’s a plant-based permanent hair color that is eco-friendly, ammonia-free, paraben-free, and vegan friendly. I figured it couldn’t ruin my hair, so after looking at the color chart NaturTint, I decided to try the color 5G – Light Golden Chestnut.

I’ve never actually colored my hair by myself, so this was a fun experience. I started by trying to part my hair line by line, but if you’ve ever seen my hair in real life you know that it’s entirely too thick to be doing all that. I then decided to just place globs of the color in my hands and then distribute it with my fingers through my hair. The color did not smell toxic or strong like other hair colors, but it spread well and coated my hair pretty evenly. After 45 minutes of “setting,” I rinsed out the hair color and didn’t notice a difference… for the whole week. But I’m finally starting to see the hair color!
Creme of Nature Straight From Eden
CurlKit (click here for a 10% discount!) sent me Creme of Nature’s new Straight From Eden Conditioning Treatment and sample shampoo, so I decided to use them to help wash my hair! Though the Straight from Eden collection is made for relaxed hair, it is paraben, sulfate, mineral oil, and petrolatum-free, so safe enough to use on natural hair. The conditioner is also plant-derived, which seems to be a recurring theme in hair products – or maybe I’m just hyper-vigilant since it’s Earth Month. Anyway, I used the shampoo as my 2nd shampoo (the hair color included one), and slathered the conditioning treatment onto my hair before going about the rest of my shower and shave routine. The conditioning treatment was thick and spread well, so passed my hair’s conditioner test! After rinsing it out, I was ready to move on to my main project – my first perm rod set.
Perm Rod Set with LottaBody Products
One of the blog readers suggested that I try perm rods when I was soliciting ideas for new hairstyles, and I just received some new new from LottaBody, so I decided to stop playing around and just make it happen. LottaBody’s NEW 5-in-1 Miracle Styling Crème served as the leave-in base for my rod set – it’s an all-in-one styling crème that penetrates and smoothes the cuticle to detangle, condition and increase manageability; acts as a thermal protectant when styling hair with heat; adds shine and moisture to create soft, hydrated, and well-nourished hair; strengthens hair to reduce damage and prevent split ends; eliminates frizz, making hair appear fuller and more voluminous; plus an irresistible fresh, tropical fragrance with notes of coconut and pineapple. It’s only around $4, so it definitely gives you a lot of bang for your buck if you’re not a product junkie who finds any reason to buy 7 different products to layer on top of their hair. #noshade. For holding power, I used the most trusted setting lotion by black women everywhere for the past 20 years, LottaBody. The difference is that they’ve reformulated it with coconut and shea oils so that it’s not drying, but it doesn’t lose it’s holding power. Check out the video of the process, and see how my hair evolved over the course of the week.
I am transitioning and my rod sets last between 5-8 days and I think yours in addition to the color is absolute kayute!!!! It should encourage you to use them more I think you did awesome the first time!!!!!
Thank you! I definitely plan too once I’m tired of these braids
Came out really nice and I love the evolution. A rod set was gonna be my next style before putting in my twists (for baby time) but I’m so tired. LOL! You are definitely inspiring me though.
Love it. I used to do a rod set when my hair was shorter. Maybe I’ll try again.
Love the rod set and each day of styling was a different look.
