Jamaican Mango and Lime Pure Naturals Review & Fluffy Perm Rod Set Tutorial

Isn’t it just so refreshing when you FINALLY achieve a hairstyle that you’ve been unable to do for… idk, ever?! I’ve done a few perm rod sets in the past year – last year shortly after my haircut and again over the summer – but I haven’t been able to get the voluminous and fluffy results that I wanted. In the first scenario, my hair was rolled on a spiral, leaving me with more of a roller set than a rod set, and in the second case, my rods were too small so my rod set was super defined.

When I decided to partner with Jamaican Mango and Lime Pure Naturals to try their new line of products, I knew I wanted to tackle the rod set again. This time, with a few tweaks, I think I finally found the secret sauce to a fluffy perm rod set!

Fluffy Rod Set Tutorial

There are 3 secrets to my fluffy rod set: 1. start on dry stretched hair, 2. use large rods, 3. use products that are super moisturizing. Check out how the combination of those three things worked below:

Final Thoughts

Pure Naturals is SUPER moisturizing, perfect for kinky, colored, and high-porosity hair. My hair retained moisture for over a week without adding any additional product. So they ain’t never lied when they said they provide 360 degrees of moisture.

However, the name Pure Naturals is slightly deceptive. Although it is free of parabens, sulfates, and mineral oil, it does have silicones as well as lots of other chemicals that were a pain in the behind to type out. I looked a few of them up on EWG, and some were preservatives and potentially naturally derived, but it’s nearly impossible to know for sure.

Now for a less than $10 price point, I think the line is better at moisture than some of it’s competitors like LottaBody and Creme of Nature, though they’re both better than Pure Naturals for styles with hold & definition. However, if you’re looking for a product that is truly natural, you should shell out a few more dollars and go with Camille Rose Naturals or the similarly priced Eden BodyWorks that you can find at Target.

I can see myself using the Pure Naturals Hair Lotion & Buttercreme to remoisturize super parched hair though!

Will you be trying out Jamaican Mango & Lime Pure Naturals?

  1. I have the Moisturizing Lotion, and used it on my locs. So far, I haven’t had to add any product to my hair, just a refreshing spritz of water for maintenance. The absence of the ingredients on the website was somewhat of a red flag for me, because I’m of the mind that if you advertise your product as ‘natural’. you shouldn’t have a problem being forthcoming with what’s in your product. People use this in their hair for goodness sake. Their regular line of products is chock full of the mineral oil, parabens, waxes and alcohols that are drying to my hair and I had to throw them away. Funny how they advertise that people should use those products to moisturize and maintain loc’ed hair, when the ingredients are actually detrimental. Since this doesn’t seem to be too bad (for now), I will try this and hope for the best.

    1. I totally feel you on wanting/expecting brands to post all their ingredients online. Its annoying when you have to dig them up (and even more annoying when I had to type them all up)! But this line definitely has better quality ingredients it seems than the other ones

  2. This product work great on your hair. I believe its work wonderful on actual natural hair but weave installed I don’t know. I may try this product if I’m not wearing a protective style.
