Sundial Brands, the parent company of Shea Moisture and Nubian Heritage, is doing the most in 2016 and I’m here for it all. First they released SIX new Shea Moisture product lines, and now they have launched a completely new brand called Madam C.J. Walker Beauty Culture. Considering it’s Women’s History Month, there’s no better time – particularly for a brand that is largely male run – to honor the FIRST woman millionaire, Madam C.J. Walker.
I remember researching Madam C.J. Walker in elementary school for a Black History Month project, and becoming fascinated with her creation of a black haircare market in America. Though I didn’t fully comprehend all her accomplishments, lil Ijeoma recognized that Madam CJ Walker was a boss.
Sidebar: You know what’s funny? If you start Googling “first woman millionaire,” one of the suggestions will be “first white woman millionaire”. But if you click it, it STILL brings up information on Madam C.J. Walker!
Madam CJ Walker Beauty Culture
Sundial Brands made sure to get approval from the family of Madam C.J. Walker [unlike the Zoe Saldana/Nina Simone debacle], and her great-great granddaughter A’Lelia Bundles – who happens to be a fellow Harvard/Radcliffe alum – fully endorsed the brand, saying “Madam C.J. Walker Beauty Culture is taking what Madam Walker envisioned more than 100 years ago to a fresh, new level with products and formulas I believe she might have imagined for the 21st century.”
The line consists of four collections with 25 products total, and are available exclusively at Sephora and Sephora.com. Three of the collections use a new Dual Encapsulation Technology, which infuses hair with two natural oils – one reparative, the other, style-enhancing – delivering nourishment exactly where hair needs it most. Prices for each product average about $30, but for a prestige – aka, not drugstore – line, I think these are average prices.
Jamaican Black Castor & Murumuru Oils Collection
Specifically for those of us with curly/coily (and I’m going to add kinky) hair, this line features Jamaican Black Castor Oil to define our hair, restore and seal in moisture. It’s also the line that has the most products, including the Pure Clarifying Shampoo w/ ACV, Ultra-Moisturizing Conditioner, Ultra-Moisturizing Co-Wash, Ultra-Moisturizing Detangler, Defining Butter Crème, Twist, Lock & Seal Lotion, Edge Control & Shape Paste, and Jamaican Black Castor Oil. Just reading the products is making my hair feel more moisturized.
Brassica Seed & Shea Oils Collection
For those with heat styled hair who don’t like silicones, the Brassica Seed & Shea Oil collection is for you! Unlike silicones, Brassica Seed Oil is high in antioxidants, giving your hair natural shine, smoothness and silky softness without the potential for buildup. The collection includes the Silkening Shampoo, Silkening Conditioner, Silkening Leave-in, Silkening Blow Out Crème, Shine & Hold Spray, and Brassica Seed Oil.
Coconut & Moringa Oils Collection
To block humidity and fight frizz for curly or wavy hair types, there is the Coconut & Moringa Oil Curl Shampoo, Curl Conditioner, Curl Defining Milk, Curl Refresher Mist, Humidity Block Curl Gel, Flyaway Curl Control Serum, and Coconut Oil.
Dream Come True Collection
The last collection, the Dream Come True, is for all hair types and is meant to nourish scalp and strands as a deep treatment. It includes the Wonderful Pre-Wash Protein Treatment, Wonderful Scalp Exfoliator, and Wonderful Deep Conditioning Masque.
Which Line Should I Try?
I’m trying to get my hands on the Jamaican Black Castor Oil and Murumuru line and do a review for you guys! I also think the Dream Come True line would be particularly useful to have, especially with all my recent hair drama. Let me know which I should try first!
If you’re curious about product ingredients – though it’s all paraben, sulfate, and phthalate free – feel free to click through the links to Sephora.
I want to try all!.Like you, reading all this is making my hair get moisturized
I am excited for this new line but I would appreciate it if you add an ingredients list with your review please.
Sephora has all the ingredients listed on each product page, so you can find the ingredient listing there. I try my best to post ingredients when they aren’t easily accessible online, but these ones already exist
I think the Dream Come True. Shea Moisture is coming out with so many new products that I can’t keep up. As soon as you turn your head, they are putting out new products to for it to turn to the other side. Let’s see what kind of results these products yield. I’m glad that they contact the family first. I’m very happy on that part and 4 that I will have to try this line. The only thing I regret now is that I have a weave in my hair but I will read thoroughly of each product to see which one I can try. Now, I need Sephora to have a percentage sale. Lol
Yes as soon as Sephora has a sale or coupon code we there!
yeah post that coupon code as soon as you get klassykinks!
