I can’t believe I’ve reached the end of my pregnancy! This journey has been absolutely incredible, but I know there is nothing that can top the feeling I’ll have once I actually hold our firstborn in my hands. Baby Kola is set to arrive any day now, so I’ve gone ahead and packed my hospital bag with things for myself, the baby, and even Jonathan. Keep reading if you need some advice on what to pack in your hospital bag, or for some hospital bag essentials for first time moms.
Hospital Bag Checklist For Mom
- Robe & Slippers/Socks
- Peri Bottle
- Ice Packs
- Maxi Pads
- Mesh Underwear
- Nursing Bras
- Toiletries
- Going Home Clothes
The majority of my things actually came from just one product, the Frida Mom Labor + Delivery Postpartum Recovery Kit. It was on my baby registry and I’m so glad someone bought it! It’s really a one-stop shop for post-labor care, especially for any bleeding and tearing that new moms might experience.
Hospital Bag Checklist for Baby

- Swaddles
- Footie Pajamas
- Socks & Mittens
- Soft Blanket
- Diapers
- Wipes
- Diaper Rash Cream
- Lotion
- Pacifier
- Going Home Clothes
Baby Kola’s going home clothes and blanket came from the Monica & Andy Hospital Cuddle Box which includes two tops, a pant, a hat, and a going home blanket. I actually like that the cuddle box comes with a top and pants instead of a onesie because I just realized that once the umbilical cord is cute, the baby will need some space for the stump to breath!
Hospital Bag Checklist for Dad
Although I didn’t photograph his things – because he hasn’t packed them yet – here’s the list I gave Jonathan for things to pack in our hospital bag before we dash off.
- Our birth plan & registration packet (I’ll be too concerned with my contractions to remember this, so it’s his job!)
- Playlist & Speakers
- Massage Oils
- Pajamas & slippers
- Toiletries
- Car seat (which is already installed in the car!)
As for the actual bag I packed, I used our Bigger Carry On from Away, which we’ve had since 2017 and has taken over 20 trips! This is probably the most exciting adventure my Away bag will go on – I’m so excited for it!
Congratulations on advance! Two things I would add…Snacks! Gym, crisps..protein bars..popcorn..even little packages of oatmeal..Dad will need quick fuel and you will be hungry or peckish after…also some loose change and cash to pay for things like hospital parking and vending machines that may not accept cards…
Wishing you a very safe delivery. Having a baby in December is the perfect Christmas gift!
Don’t forget the chargers for the electronics – phone, camera, laptop, etc!
I can’t think of anything. It looks like you have everything covered and some. Congratulations again! I so excited for you and your husband and now the fun just continues and continues. I pray for healthy bundle of joy for you and Jonathan. Nurture, love, teach, pray, bless and keep little Kola knowledgeable of his heritage in which I know that you will. ??
