I’m definitely more of a night owl than a morning person, but staying up until 3 in the morning doesn’t work in your thirties once you throw in a child. I literally fell sick at the end of last year due to lack of sleep, so I knew that I had to start going to sleep earlier so that I could wake up less groggy and frazzled. Ever since I time blocked my calendar, gave myself a computer cutoff time (which I stick to only about 50% of the time, but hey, it’s progress), and delegated a few more tasks for my two businesses, I was able to create a more regular morning routine to jumpstart my day and get it going on the right path. Here’s my 2021 morning routine!
P.S. Here’s a video of my morning routine that I recorded 2 weeks ago. It’s a bit different from the one written out below because I recorded it in my bedroom for lighting purposes, but it gives you a sense of the pace of my mornings!
Wake Up, Nurse, Devotional
My son starts my mornings and I wake up whenever he does, which is usually between 6:15 and 6:45 am. I head to the nursery and feed him, cuddle, and read until about 7. During a catch-up with one of my friends this week, she said that she uses the morning breastfeeding time to listen to a devotional, so I’ve started to do that this week as well.
Read and Play
From around 7-7:30 or 8 am, I read with my son. His bookcase is right next to the armchair so he usually gets off the boob once he’s done and reaches for a book of his choice. He LOVES reading and turning the pages, but right now I’m trying to encourage him to finish one book before picking up another, because after 3 pages he’s usually on to the next lol. Sometimes after reading I’ll bring him into the bedroom and get back into the bed to cuddle with Jonathan, but if Jonathan is still sleeping, we’ll stay in the nursery and do some playing.
Mommy’s Time
Once Jonathan is up around 8, he usually takes over and has his time with the baby. This gives me time to center myself for the day and write in my journal, mentally plan out my day, do some leisure scrolling (I have scheduled social media time during the workday) or reading, or do a workout on the WW app.
Shower and Skincare
I’m actually considering switching to a nighttime shower person, because I love the idea of pampering yourself before bed with a luxurious cream and silky pajamas, but for right now I shower in the morning and then do my 5 step morning skincare routine. More on that in another post coming soon!
I did planned a morning routine for 2021 but it seems like I can’t get it going. If it’s not some type of distraction to keep me from implementing it. From the weather, grandson, husband or physical therapy I have not seems to get it going. I have to get back on board and try to figure how to get going again.
