4 Online Assessments to Help You Get More Clarity In These Times

I’ve been quiet on the blog the past few weeks, because to be honest, I’ve been grieving the fact that our lives are completely different. And just like the five stages of grief, I’ve moved from denial to anger and am making my way towards acceptance. This year was supposed to be about really solidifying what I’m supposed to be doing with my life since finishing my PhD, and the pandemic has thrown a wrench in those plans.

Last week, I was reminded about how tough times often force people to pivot. There are tons of lists of successful people who were fired from their jobs and companies that started as one thing and eventually became another. As part of my attempt to get out of my pandemic induced funk, I’ve started to do some online assessments to help me clarify my skills, passions, and goals so I can come out of this stronger than before!

Enneagram Test

Blame Buzzfeed and Apartment Therapy quizzes, but I recently started seeing the word enneagram everywhere. If you’re unfamiliar, the Enneagram is a personality typing quiz with nine possible results. In the past, I’ve been a bit disillusioned by personality tests (specifically the Myers Briggs) because I didn’t feel they fully captured who I was, but the Enneagram test was SPOT ON for me (I’m a 3 btw). Take the test here, and get more clarity on how your personality – and its pros and cons – shape your relationships, work, and values.

36 Questions that Lead to Love

Whether you’re married, in a now socially distanced relationship, or you’re doing virtual first dates, New York Times’ 36 Questions That Lead to Love is a great way to clarify whether your relationship – or budding romance – is on the right path. Doing all the questions on a first date is probably too much, but you can pick and choose a few as conversation starters.

Interior Design Style Quiz

If you’re spending more time at home, chances are you might be spending more money on your living space as well. If you’ve bought throw pillows that you immediately regretted, it might be worthwhile to take a quiz to clarify your interior design style. As an interior design fanatic, I’ve taken A LOT of these, and this one, this one, and this one are the most insightful and accurate.

Career Assessment

If you’re currently between jobs, or are feeling trapped in your current position now that your super fun coworkers don’t help make the days go by more quickly, a career assessment can be the perfect way to clarify how your skillset overlaps with your passions. There are a variety of career assessments out there, but if you’re in graduate school or considering a PhD, this one was more helpful for me than any career workshop I’ve ever attended.

Are there any online quizzes or tests that you’ve taken that really helped bring you clarity?
