While Labor Day Weekend marks the unofficial end of summer, and the start of a new school year, I know a lot of kids have already been back in school for several weeks. I’d love to share about a doll that I think will help encourage, uplift, and bring joy to black girls everywhere, especially at the start of this new school year!
Brown Eyed Dolls is a family run business that creates gorgeous fashion dolls and 18″ dolls that represent the cultural diversity that makes the USA so special.Ultimately, their plan is to have a complete line of dolls from various cultural backgrounds, with varied skin tones and hair textures that fills the gap of multicultural dolls in the toy market. Their first two 12 inch dolls – Aliyah and Michelle
– can share clothes and accessories, and Michelle
just transitioned to natural hair!
I think these dolls are absolutely adorable, and I’d recommend them to anyone who knows a little girl who could use representation of herself in her playthings. Having a brown doll while I was growing up would have definitely boosted my self-esteem, and probably would’ve convinced my mother to actually let me play with dolls instead of books lol!
LOL! You’re silly. Michelle IS fierce. Awesome that they had her “transition” and have her sporting the natural look. It’s so funny that growing up, I don’t think I ever really thought about there not being a lot of quality brown-skinned Barbie-like dolls. This definitely solves that. Little brown girls need to see that they are beautiful and this is one way to do it.
Next is black GI Joes or whatever boys play with for Micah!
