I was asked by Carusele to participate in the #JaredTimelessMoments campaign, sponsored by Jared The Galleria Of Jewelry. Although I have been compensated, all opinions are my own. Thanks for supporting the brands that support IjeomaKola.com!
Any time someone asks me who I look up to, the answer is always my mom. I am blessed to have an amazing mom who is brutally honest, encouraging, hilarious, super fun, a prayer warrior, and a great cook! And since we look alike, I really am just trying to be like her when I grow up. Maybe with a bit less shade haha! Since both my parent’s birthdays are relatively close to Christmas (mom’s is on Nov 21st, dad’s is on Dec 1st), I usually combine their birthday gifts with Christmas gifts. I’ve already put together some suggestions for what to buy your dad for Christmas, but if you’re looking for the perfect gift for mom, keep reading!
My mom and I had serious beef when I was in high school and a bit into college. I felt like she was overly strict, didn’t treat me as an adult (lol I wasn’t), and was just always all up in my business. Now that I’m older, I’ve realized a few things about those years. My mom did her ultimate best to toughen me up to thrive in a world that constantly tells women, especially women of color, that they can’t pursue their wildest dreams. She raised me to thrive in, yet be critical of a patriarchal culture and society like the one I’m from and the one I was raised in. My mom came all the way to America BY HERSELF and then saved up enough money within a year to bring along my dad and two kids! Talk about boss status.
Even though we didn’t talk a lot about boys growing up, watching her and my dad’s love taught me how to spot the rare kind of guy who could handle the boss babes that my mom and I are! And I’ll admit, having to stay home from all those parties in high school, despite how awful my life seemed at the time, meant that I was able to focus on academics enough to attend not one but two Ivy League schools. I didn’t have a chance to get derailed by society’s expectations of me since my mom had the very highest expectations of her only daughter. For that, I’m eternally grateful and forever indebted to her. Growing up my mom used to say “I’m your mom, not your friend” but now I’m proud that I’ve matured enough to consider her both my mom and one of my closest friends!
I didn’t give my mom anything for Christmas last year because she was out of the country and we were pre-wedding cash strapped. This year, I decided to look for a splurge-worthy item that would say THANK YOU FOR EVERYTHING I WANT TO BE JUST LIKE YOU louder than words. This 14K rose gold necklace with 1/2 ct of diamonds from Jared the Galleria Of Jewelry fits the bill perfectly. Because it’s delicate, my mom can wear the necklace daily, but it also precious enough to be saved for special moments. I had a feeling the rose gold would be perfect for her skin tone, and it was! The diamonds are in the shape of a flower, but I like to think they look like a star because my mom is really the star of the success story my life.

Your mom sounds amazing and she is amazingly gorgeous, as well! This thoughtful gift really does her justice. I imagine her pride in you and your accomplishments shine even brighter than any necklace could. Your genuine smiles here tell the story.
She is amazing! Thanks so much for reading and taking the time to comment
