I’ve worn glasses the majority of my life. Rather, I’ve needed to wear glasses, but often did not want to wear them because they made me feel uncool. As soon as I convinced my parents I needed contacts for sports, my glasses didn’t ever see the light of day! Over the past few years, eyeglasses have gone from functional to stylish, and my eyeglass collection has grown from one to six pairs. Half of my glasses are from Coastal, which has affordable frames that make it easy for you to build a whole collection of glasses for every mood! If you’re looking to infuse some personality into your eyewear, here are my recommendations of stylish eyeglasses for black women!
Go Metal
Rather than chunky plastic frames that cover a lot of your facial features, look for thin metal frames that let your face shine through! Shades of antique bronze, gold and rose gold metal frames complement brown skin beautifully. Elaine Welteroth actually got me interested in metal frames, but since my face is chubbier than hers, I stuck with an angular and slight aviator shape versus the round shape. If you have an angular face and prefer a rounder frame, these also come in a similar round shape.
The Right Tortoise
If you’ve tried to venture away from black glasses, you might have tried a tortoise pair before. I’ve found some tortoise glasses looked blah on me – I don’t know how to explain it, but the brown and black specks blended into my skin rather than standing out. Coastal offers a variety of tortoise shades, from blush tortoise to smoky grey tortoise to even purple tortoise, so you can find the right tortoise print to perfect match your skin tone. I like the blush tortoise because it complements the blond in my hair!
Add Color
Since I don’t wear a lot of color, I’ve decided my next pair of glasses will be something colorful. Currently, red is winning me over as the most common color in my closet, but I just saw these glasses that I already have now come in cool colors and this sky blue tortoise looks like it would match all of my medium wash denim!
There are two amazing things that I love about buying glasses from Coastal. Their MyFit tool helps you narrow down frames that will fit you well based on a pair of glasses you already have! For folks like me with large faces, this is especially key because I’ve ordered glasses online before only to find them too small for my face. Secondly, they have a buy one, give one initiative, that donates a pair of glasses to someone in need with every purchase.
Ok, one more amazing thing. Coastal STAYS having some kind of sale! Be sure to check them out and once you get your new frames, tag me in your pictures so I can show you some love!
I like the sky blue tortoise the most. How can I buy a pair?
I really like the sky blue tortoise! I’ve used Coastal too. I can also find stylish and super affordable frames at Eye Buy Direct.
I think I may go for a colored pair next! Thanks for the recommendation.
The tortoise shell pair are my faves!!!
Mine too!
I have been waiting for this post!! Thank you!
You’re so welcome!
I really like the metal and tortoise frames. I have never ever considered a metal frame before. I have always gone with the rubber frame. I noticed just because you buy a name brand frame when they won’t begin to tear up. I bought a denim material pair and it was a popular name brand but the material begin to unravel. I paid pretty good coins for them. I’m coming up for an eye exam soon so I might have to check the company out but since I have to have progressive lens I hope the price want be too high. You look cute in all pairs of ?.
Thanks! And yeah, hopefully my various blog posts have shown that designer isn’t always best – quality clothing and accessories can be found in lots of places!
