Super Quick Wash Day with Aussie 3 Minute Miracle

I had one of the greatest hair days last week, and it only took me a short time to prep! Now, you’ve likely seen this product in the store but maybe passed it over because it wasn’t in the section with all the shea butter based puddings for natural haired women who can’t get enuf. I used to use the Aussie brand when I first went natural, and now that I’ve tried it again for the first time in maybe five years, I’m kicking myself in the foot for ever quitting.

Back when I was on a college budget and didn’t get free hair products (thank you PR friends!), I used to religiously cowash and condition my hair with Aussie Moist Conditioner. It was affordable, easily available both in stores and online, and that stuff was bomb. If you want throwback evidence (and a good laugh), check out this video of me chatting about my regimen from 2010, when I should have been doing my schoolwork. Eek, old habits die hard!

Fast forward to today. I’ve gotten to the point in my natural hair regimen (I feel like it’s no longer a journey for me, but that’s another conversation), where all I care about is moisture. All I want is hydrated hair that doesn’t break off due to my habitual coloring. Contrary to what some people think, there are products that can anoint your hair with moisture without taking all your coins!

Since my hair had been shampooed just a week prior, I decided to use Aussie’s 3 Minute Miracle Strong Conditioning Treatment as a cowash. I applied a hefty palmful throughout my hair and then went on with the rest of my body cleansing.

My original intention was just to rinse out the product and detangle with my leave in conditioner. But once I touched my hair and felt how soft it was, I couldn’t resist seeing if I could easily finger detangle without sectioning my hair. Girl, when I say I ran my fingers through my hair?!

Let me say that again, I RAN MY FINGERS THROUGH MY HAIR.

If you have extremely tightly coiled hair like mine, you probably thought this was impossible. Chile, so did I! It’s possible that part of the reason the 3 Minute Miracle Strong Conditioning Treatment worked so well was because I’d just gotten a trim and a thorough comb detangle with the color treatment. However, the product itself has so much slip, it’s absolutely a must have deep conditioner for kinky natural hair whether you choose to detangle with a comb or not.

Unfortunately, Aussie doesn’t carry any butter-based moisturizers that I prefer to use on my hair, so once I plop dried with a t-shirt, I applied TGIN Green Tea Super Moist Leave In all over and then layered with the Buttercream Moisturizer. To style, I decided to do smedium two strand twists (about 25) that I could rock under a hat for for a few days before rocking my twistout. For extra hold, I used a bit of Aussie Instant Freeze Sculpting Hair Gel on every twist. The total styling time took me less than an hour! Two and a half days later, the result is a luscious twistout with major hydration.

  1. Absolutely LOVE! I have the same hair texture as you and I use the Aussie Moist Conditioner too, as a co-wash and sometimes a leave-in conditioner. You are such an inspiration, love your blog and channel. I am hoping to get my hair coloured similar to yours, but I live in Vancouver, Canada and the struggle is real I tell you when it comes to finding stylists that can actually work on really curly tightly curled textured hair! I will let you know how it goes :).

  2. Your color look great. I’ve tried the 3 minute Aussie Moist conditioner and like it. As a PJ, you try something once or twice and try something else. I will have to revisit this product. I stumbled across your earlier youtube video and love how your hair has transformed to this thick voluptuous mane. I’ll be there one day.

  3. I want to dye my hair but am afraid it will damage it. Do you have any advice for me? I really want to try it.

  4. GIRL!!! The only product that is a permanent member of my “hair squad” is Aussie 3 Minute Miracle (anything) Conditioning Treatment! I’m yet to find a product that gives me that much slip. I, too, wish they had a moisturizer that I could use for my hair–maybe my prayers will be answered in a few years. I’m yet to perfect my twist out but yours is BOMB!
