I haven’t straightened my hair since June 2016, but was itching to do something different. Since I work out so much (ok not so much in the past week, but generally 3x a week!), I didn’t want to go through the 4-5 hour long process of getting my hair straightened. Plus, because I rarely blow dry or straighten my hair, it doesn’t know how to act. It frizzes right back up the second it feels a whisper of moisture. If you haven’t ever gotten up from the salon chair and immediately felt your hair start to swell, then you won’t understand my excitement when I found the perfect straight wig!
Since my hair is custom colored, I thought it would be hard to find a ready made natural looking wig. I randomly walked into a wig store in Manhattan and spent an hour oohing and aahing over their selection. After debating between a few options, I walked out with the It’s A Wig Swiss Lace Century in NT27/30! The color is a slightly warmer blonde than my current hair color, but once my blonde fades a bit more it will be spot on! Doesn’t it look a lot just like my previously straightened hair?
I found this wig to be fairly easy to wear and style. The 4×4 part was wide enough to part in the middle or on the side. Even though the wig is synthetic, the lace construction is very believable. I watched me a Jackie Aina video to learn how to blend and was on my way! The curls were a bit tight but loosened up after brushing with a wide paddle brush. After a week of wear, the back did start to tangle up so this is definitely not an everyday, sew-on wig.
While wearing my wig, I go-to edge control combination was Design Essentials Honey & Shea Edge Tamer and Creme of Nature Perfect Edges Black. The Design Essentials product has the most hold of all the edge controls I’ve tried. But the Perfect Edges Black helps slightly fill in your edges so the wig looks even more natural. At night, I used the Hairfinity Infinite Edges Serum to strengthen and rejuvenate my edges.
I’m SO excited that I found this wig because there’s literally NO reason for me to ever straighten my hair again! And when I change my hair color, I can just find another wig that better matches.
