One of the ways I balance grad school and blogging is by shooting multiple looks at a time. My photographer and I try to get in at least six different outfits, which usually gives me enough content for a few weeks. Today I’m starting a new fashion series inspired by how I actually style my shoots! I don’t have a car, so I usually tote around all the clothes I plan to shoot for the day in a large tote bag or a small suitcase. To minimize the number of pieces I carry around, I often create looks that repeat items. Plus, since a lot of my more interesting pieces are actually borrowed from Rent the Runway, I try to style them in more than one way to get the most bang for my buck!
First up, I’ll be showing you three ways to wear culottes in the fall. This pair by Finders Keepers has stripes and is a light, silky material, but there are tons of color and fabric options for culottes. If you’re looking to add a pair to your wardrobe, look for one that is slightly flowy and comes in a dark neutral like black or navy.
How to Wear Culottes in the Fall: Casual
For a casual look, I paired my culottes with a chunky knit sweater in ivory and my favorite white sneakers. Since the culottes are already flowy, I added some shape to my sweater by knotting it. For extra warmth, I’d wear this with an insulated bomber jacket or a leather moto.
How to Wear Culottes in the Fall: Professional
For a more professional look, I paired my culottes with a white tank, a white blazer, neutral pumps, and my new favorite hat. A black tank and blazer would be even more work friendly, but there’s something about winter whites that I just can’t get over! On colder days, I’d add a scarf and a gray winter coat (I’m still searching for the perfect one, but I think this might be it!).
How to Wear Culottes in the Fall: Date Night
Although I didn’t shoot this look, I’d pair these culottes with a black lace blouse and ankle booties for date night! I couldn’t find an exact image of what I have in my head, but these looks give you an idea. For another layer, I’d probably drape a black or gray coat over my shoulders and carry a small bag.
